Vroeger Was Alles Beter / The Rockin' Windmill Show

Between September 6, 2012 and February 21, 2013 we could listen to the history of the rock and roll hits that entered the Dutch top-40. This show was aired every Thursday evening between 8 and 9 o'clock.
It took in total 20 shows. And in the last episode only number 1 hits were played.

This is a short list of artists that were in the Dutch hitparade with several records: Fats Domino, Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, Cliff Richard, the Shadows, Shakin’ Stevens, MUD, Long Tall Ernie & the Shakers, John Spencer, Chubby Checker en Jack Jersey.

About one year before these shows Radio Rucphen FM aired the history of the rock and roll hits in the USA hitparade. The music from the Dutch charts sounded pretty different. In the USA there were many pure rock and roll songs. In the Netherlands a lot of records just had a rock and roll layer.
In addition it should be noted that the American rock and roll songs were hard to get in the Netherlands. That meant that stars like Bill Haley & his Comets, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins en Jerry Lee Lewis didn't get a fair chance to score a number of hits over here.
It really improved during the early sixties but at that time rock and roll was already fading out in the States.

The shows were put together for the listeners of Radio Rucpen FM by Jack van Oers who also did the presentation.
